EXPERIENCE IN BOATBUILDING
BEGINNIGS …
Since 1949 ELAN has been engaged in the production of marine orientated craft. This
production began with the making of boats, kayaks, canoes, four- and eight-seated
scullers that were made out of waterproof wooden slabs in a special marine workshop,
which saw its biggest success in the years of 1950 to 1952.
In the following six years, the Marine Division temporarily redirected its manufacturing
into the production of folding rubberized kayaks. In 1957 and 1958, having received
orders from America, Elan switched back to the production of wooden vessels.
In the next few years Elan made approximately 700 yachts and other craft, bearing the
name of Olympia, for the American market alone.
Until the emergence of polyester the production was not really planned, but more
coincidential. Planned production began in 1962, with the manufacturing of boats from
reinforced polyester, the material that at that time meant a revolutionary world
innovation in the construction of yachts.
The first polyester model was a 3,5 metre-long boat for calm waters. This boat was based
on the model of boat from a lake local to Elan. It was made in three variants: Neptun 1,
Neptun 2 and Fortuna. Inthe first year of production over 100 such boats were made and
exported to Sweden.
These boats were followed by the first boats to be manufactured on a Scandinavian
design. Here belongs a series of boats marked 011, 013 and 015, which had a very wide
stern and relatively high freeboard. Being very stable and keping their direction well, they
were suitable for extreme weather conditions. Due to their quality and Lloyd's Certificate,
they were of interest to more demanding buyers. Most were sold to Scandinavia,
particulary Sweden.
This development ran its course, and in the 70's boats by the name of Turist were being
manufactured. Models: T 240, 375, 400, 410, 480, 495 and finally 401. The T401 and
GT495F stopped manufacturing just couple of years ago. In fact, out of its manufacture
up to 600 of them were made, and over 10.000 during the 27 years of their existence.
Among the motor boats that emerged in the period from the 70's to the 90's, the
following models deserve mention: Elan 600 cabin, Elan 23 Walkaround, 15 cc, 17 cc, 18
cabin, 20 cc and 22 FL.
... AND TODAY
Three years ago, in line with our vision to become one of the world's major boat builders,
we decided to expand our brand portfolio and to strengthen our position on the market of
motor yachts. In order to fulfill that vision, the Power range was developed. The first boat
in the range is the Elan Power 35, designed by world-famous yacht designer Tony Castro.
